Uruguay
Uruguay is not a target country of the Siemens Integrity Initiative. However, as a winner of the 2024 internal ACCA contest, it is receiving support through the Golden Stretch Round by the Siemens Integrity Initiative.
The Global Compact Network Uruguay was established to advance corporate sustainability and integrity, aligning with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. Since 2022, the Network has been leading efforts to combat corruption in Uruguay through Collective Action initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and integrity in the private sector.
Mission
Network Uruguay aims to cultivate a robust culture of ethical business practices by championing the development and passage of Uruguay’s first anti-corruption law. By engaging a diverse array of stakeholders—including businesses, government entities, and civil society—the Network strives to enhance existing policies and embed private sector perspectives into the national legislative framework.
Collaborative efforts
The Business Integrity Working Group has attracted strong interest from both UN Global Compact participants and non-participating companies, reflecting the widespread relevance of anti-corruption efforts. The collaboration with Uruguayan Transparency and Public Ethics Board (JUTEP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been instrumental in ensuring that the draft law incorporates best practices and aligns with international standards. Chambers of Commerce, compliance associations, and academic institutions have also played key roles in advancing these initiatives.
Looking ahead
Network Uruguay is dedicated to formalizing the governance of the Business Integrity Collective Action Working Group, ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness. Future plans include the continued development of the anti-corruption law, capacity-building initiatives for private sector companies, and expanding stakeholder engagement to foster a comprehensive approach to integrity and transparency in Uruguay.
